Mechanical speedo drive gear assembly

Post by SR240Z » Tue Oct 10, 2023 4:25 pm

Hi all,

I have had a 71C gearbox fitted into the 240z and we are progressing the car towards a cert (for suspension and brakes etc) and we are looking for a mechanical speedo drive gear assembly.

Does anyone know where I can source one from? I want to retain the original gauges

Cheers

Adam

Hi Adam,
is this the drive gear that fits into the gearbox casing?

the ones from the 71B box will fit, from memory they are just oriented slightly differently. The key thing is to get one with the right number of teeth for the diff your are running
if you want your speedo and odo to be accurate.
They are colour coded, if you can still see the colour.
They used to be available from wreckers. There are people in the Club who have collections of them, from buying replacement boxes.

black 17 teeth for 3.54 diff
blue 18 tooth for 3.70
white 19 teeth for 3.90
red 20 teeth for 4.11
purple 21 teeth for 4.38

Yep correct, I have a S13 turbo gearbox in my car and you can put the Z speedo drive into that box. The S13 has an electronic one. For the different teeth gears, I bought mine from the States at the time. Can't remember but I think I got it from Ebay.
