smoke out the exhaust and bubbles in the coolant!!!

Post by greeevas » Sun Sep 09, 2007 7:49 pm

After some spirited driving last weekend my 280zx has developed smoke and moisture from the exhaust and bubbles in the coolant. The smoke is usually blue but has been developing to a whitish colour. Quite bad when decellerating or pulling away from the lights after idling for a peroid. It also started to over heat. Im summising that I have a blown head gasket or possibly broken oil rings. Is this a common problem with the stock L series engines. Im about to pull the head off soon and may even just put in my spare engine while I diagnose and repair the original. If the speedo and paper work are correct this engine has only done 101 000kms, so would like to keep it original. any enlightenment would gratefully recieved

most likely be blown head gasket or cracked head. 1 way to be sure is remove the spark plugs and pressure test the radiator then crank the engine to see which cylinders are pumping water out the spark plug holes.
