Cubby Hole computer?!

Post by chrismx5 » Fri Sep 05, 2014 9:06 am

Just an idea I am toying around with at the moment, I have a small touch screen android tablet and a wireless OBD2 scanner, I have been playing with ideas to mount the tablet into the cubby hole, with it set up to run some "dashboards" off the OBD2 scanner.

Anyone done anything with the cubby hole that they can show me/give me ideas?

Ive just done this kinda thing to my 2005 imported Z. The nav cubby can almost perfectly fit a 7'' tablet, I got an engineering friend of mine to weld up a holder that fits into where the Japanese nav controls would sit (so both the tablet and the stand are removable). Its really solid, held fast the entire drive from Nelson to Christchurch.

Ive chucked up some pictures of what my set up looks like (sorry for the bad quality, I usually use my tablet for taking picture :P)

You could get an obd2 diagnostic plug from dx.com for like $20-30 and it has Bluetooth to connect to your iPad or tablet. Then all you need to do is download an app and you can see fault codes and also map parameters in real time. Technology is pretty cool now.
