That door is a bit of work, Hit the car randomly when you feel arty and see what the result is. Your relationship with this old girl must be strong now, Lots of ups and downs but no regrets. Keep up the entertaining posts.

Just a bit of an update coz its been a little while since i posted anything. Ive got all the bits to fix my rear stub axle but im afraid my girl is just going to be hiding in my garage for the next 8 or 9 months :( Due to work im going to be away overseas till mid next year and i just dont have time to fix her before i leave. Haha also fair warning to anybody who has considered buying the console arm-rest/cupholder from MSA for their S30.... it doesnt fit snugly like they claim, it doesnt OPEN when its in place due to the large lid hitting the side of the seat, and the overall quality of it is very poor. If it wasnt such a hassle to sort it out with them i would have sent it back but like i say, im short on time and my efforts are better spent on time with my wife and kids for the next couple weeks. Anyway, thanks for all the feedback and information from everyone here. Hopefully when i return to NZ next year there'll be a lot of extra cash to pour into my girl and give her another birthday :D

I also thought id share another picture of my steering wheel for a few reasons. I love it. It looks great. It was expensive. I love it. It looks great.... i think im repeating myself now :)

Hahahaha yea, me and the wife are pretty used to the long distance thing, what with her studying in Dunedin for 3years not long after we got together, and now me being a soldier and all lol.

So mum and dad wanted to get me something cool for my 30th and asked my wife to find out what i wanted as a personalised plate. Gotta say im pretty chuffed. PPs are one of those "i really want one but $1000 buys a lot of parts" things haha. Anyway let me know what you guys think :)

Those long distance relationships can be tough hang in there. Its 6 months since I dropped mt Z32 off with Glenn for a few repairs and left for Sumatera.
Satu mingu lagi. One week to go before I see her again.

Well i decided id buy some more bits for the car before i fly away for the better part of a year and it was probably a silly thing to do coz now theres the potential for my kids to break said bits and bobs while im away hahaha but oh well gotta risk it for the biscuit haha.

Oh, also i want to convert her to RH drive. The novelty of having a left hook has worn off now, especially seeing as its a japanese car. If anybody hears of anybody wrecking a RH drive fairlady please let me know as im happy to pay a fair penny for the bits and pieces i need to do the job. Cheers lads and ladesses :)

So Iraq is a rubbish dump. Living there for 7 months made me miss NZs beautiful green bush and clean waters. I also missed my car. A lot haha. Ive been home for about 2 weeks now and Ive managed to cross most of the "buy" items off my to-do list. Theres a lot of work i want to get done before i go back to work next month but im gonna have my work cut out for me. Order of priority is -
1. Fix stub axle
2. Fit coilovers and camber plates
3. Fit L28 and 5 speed gearbox
4. Cut rear fenders and fit flares
Those are probably the 4 key things i want to get done before i go back to work. I feel like its pretty doable if the funds dont run dry and i dont waste time faffing about. One of the things thats holding me up a bit right now is finding a good fabrication workshop in Palmerston North. Its suuuuuper frustrating being a qualified welder/fabricator but not having a workshop to actually fabricate stuff in. Like a lathe. I need a lathe. And a welder. I need a decent welder. GAH! And coz i dont have those things i end up paying other people to do it. Horrible. Anyway if you guys can recommend a shop up here thatd be choice. Or even better if anyone in palmy wants to let me use their lathe that would be fantastic haha. Heres some photos coz photos in build threads are crucial haha.

First of all I can't imagine what being deployed in Iraq is like but I do like where you are taking your Z. Nice deep dish wheels! Keep up the cool work!

How good a welder do you need? I've got a MIG you can use, I think I live a few streets away from you. I'd talk to the mechanic that has my Z at the moment (Tim Buys). He seems to specialise in a lot of rare cars and race-type cars with crazy custom setups, so I bet he'd know a good machinist

So a lot has changed since my last post despite the fact ive spent the last 3months in bloody Waiouru. I swear, i hate that place more than i hate rust... and thats a lot. Anyways, ive bought a welder haha. Its pretty good too and ive been welding up a storm since it turned up. Unfortunately not welding up a storm on my Z though thats about to change....

Image

Initially put her up on blocks so i could get underneath and replace my screwy clutch slave. Once she was up in the air i realised nothing was stopping somebody from stealing my new wheels so i pulled them off and rolled them in the garage. I put her up outside the garage just so theres more space to work on her. Its a bit cramped when shes parked in the garage. So anyway once the wheels were off i realised i may as well put in my coilover conversion and weld in my camber plates....

Image

So obviously i pulled my suspension apart and pulled my steering rack out for a rebuild/refresh. As soon as i had the fronts apart i realised how much i want to put technotoytuning bits on the front end haha so the old factory bits and pieces will likely be going in the bin instead of back on the car. It almost feels wrong to throw out parts that have been on the car for the past 45years. Kinda like when you eat a really big crayfish and you realise its like that crayfish has lived as long as you have. But i digress.... (lol its been a while if anybody wants to send me a crayfish haha) So anyway the only reason i havent already ordered the T3 parts is ive also decided to build a 3.1L stroker motor from this! ...

Image

Its a N42 block and head which ive decided from a LOT of research is definitely the ideal block and head to use for a stroker build. But now the problem im presented with is one of funds. Surprise surprise. Id say nobody here knows this but my wife gave birth to our third child a week after i got back from Iraq. Great timing, i know haha. This coincided with our eldest starting school which means my wife can no longer make the 48hr commute to wellington for work on Monday and Tuesday so now we're on a single wage which if im perfectly honest is pretty gay. I dont know how people do it. The worst part is because of how much she earnt those 2days a week our income has been halved so of course all my "car" money is now "family" money. Dont get me wrong i dont have any issue whatsoever with supporting my family. I love them to bits. Im just gutted i cant fork out whenever i want new parts. Now i have to plan. So anyway the parts list for my stroker motor is at about NZD$6500 and thats literally just the list of parts minus an LD28 crank. If anybody wants to be real generous and sell me an LD crank id be ever so greatful. I had one all lined up from a friend but it turns out to be beyond saving. Its toast. So yea id like to purchase an LD crank if anyone can help. Which brings me to the last thing im gonna bring up in this little update.

What do you guys think of this?

Image

Image

Im seriously considering purchasing this kit. I think it looks amazing. I was a real fan of the FuguZ and the rocketbunny kit for the Z but i just wasnt 100% sold on how they looked. Plus the kit costs almost 10 freakin grand (eye roll). This kit is brand new, theres only been 6 sold so far and its currently on about a USD$1700 discount coz its so new! Soooooo what do you guys think about it? Yay? Nay? I really love it but im not quite 100% sold on it yet and lookin for some public (borderline....we're all Z fan shut-ins lol) opinion on the look.

So yea thats all from me. Ive been busy. And i wish i could say ALL that busy has been in the garage but it most certainly has not haha.

Firstly I should say congratulations :) I can imagine the impact going from 2 wages to 1 would have on a family and like you say less splashing out on car parts must suck :(

That's probably one of the coolest kits I've ever seen, though who says your 240Z doesn't look beautiful already!!

Progress looks good, I'm jealous of all your new parts.
I've hit the same speedbump as you (just went to a single income) so now I have to sell all my toys to buy parts.
Good luck looking for the LD crank! Let me know if you need a hand with anything

Kit looks good as long as you dont park it on a curb. Not sure about suspension travel if you actually want to drive it, migh pay to research that side of it.
