front cv joint noise when I turn

Post by hairy1121 » Sun Dec 29, 2013 7:53 pm

When I turn left my car makes a noise EXACTLY like a worn out cv joint, (obviously a 280zx does not have front cvs) I have checked over the brakes and suspension as best I can but cannot seem to find any fault, it clicks faster with speed and under braking. The handling doesent seem to be effected in any way and the wheel bearings are relativly new, (I checked and re-packed anyway) if any one can help at all it would be appreciated, if anyone can identify the fault ill gladly post a voucher for a box of beer haha. Cheers

Are you running standard wheels and tyres?

Nope, centerlines with 235s on the front 245 on the back. Had the wheels on there for ages tho and I got them off another 280zx.

What's changed recently? New tyres? Brake pads?

Absolutly nothing, 4 to 5000km on current setup, I just changed the pads the other day when I checked over the brakes.

Thinking back i once had a car that did something like you are describing and it turned out to be the shim behind the brake pad , the holes where the locating pins go through was slopped out and moving back and forth under differing driving conditions
