Hi B101
Yep I know Phil Howz. He built my engine for me about 8 years ago. Did a really good job and super cheap (no labour charge only parts ) He did it for the love of the L series engines. He lives on the outskirts of Hamilton. I went for a spin in the car just before he sold to the guy you got it from. It seemed to go very well and sounded like a really highly tuned V8 at idle and then a really nasty inline 6 when reving. I havent seen him for a while but do pop down from time to time to see what he is up to.
What were the 1/4 mile times and dyno figures??

Yea that's him, he knows his stuff when it comes to the L24 engines. He's been a really good help to me when it came to the car, he knows that thing inside out. The dyno was 197rwhp and he did a 13.2 second 1/4. Don't know if that was his quickest or not,
He told me that he has built another 5 Zs since but hasn't been able to get the HP figures out of the other L24s or the sound for that matter.he even asked if I ever thought of selling it that he wanted to be on the top of the list since that was his very first Z and took him 7years to complete
After seeing one in the Aussie street rod mag and fell in love with the lines of the car and devoted everything he had to making it identical.

as per PM's, my R180 turned out to be a 3.545:1 [3.9:11] ratio.

This will make it feel a little more sluggish compared to the 3.9, but if your crown wheen & pinion is ok, then just change the other gears...

let me know... :)

excellent so just change the center over from another R180 diff - just be careful there are 2 types of Longnose R180's around, earlier 110mm crown wheel and later 115mm crown wheel - you would not want to get a 115mm center if yours is a 110mm version.

Most of this stuff is covered on the www just google it.

If the top of the diff case has a K cast on the top it will be the later 115mm version. If not it will be the 110mm version.

i also found a quaife LSD for a 240z
does the size of the crown wheel matter when installing the LSD?

No it has no meaning. The LSD centre will be for either the 110mm version or the 115mm version not both. Quafie have 2 part numbers one for the 110 version the other for the 115 version. That is why I mentioned there is s difference.
