This car would do approximately (120 mph) 200 kph, hard to tell but speedo was in miles per hour and when the needle hit it's stop it would bounce around. I did the restore on a teenages budget and went though 3 sanders from Mitre 10. They would replace it each time it died. My hands were buggered after all the vibration. Z18 was a great motor (cost $800+box $400) and when twin points were perfectly timed it had tremendos power, loss of power meant time to retune.

Yes, was genuine SSS but previous owners had robbed the SSS motor and box then fitted standard L16 motor/box with the SSS twin carbs. This caused major flow problems with manifold ports being huge and intake ports being smaller. That's why I sold old motor and did the repower.

Interesting how many of us Z owners had 1600's earlier in our lives. I have to confess to having had 4 plus a 160J SSS. And most of my mates back in the late 70's had 1600s too, including a few rally cars and a really mint 1600 SSS. At the time 240Zs were a bit out of our price ranges.

I've been trying to buy one of my mates old 1600 rally cars for some time now, I think I have first option when the current owner decides to sell.

I should not have sold my Silver 160J SSS - it was a great little car.

I had a 1934 ford V8 coupe' that I owned as a first car. I was 15 years old, and had saved the money delivering Heralds 6 mornings a week.

Same. I had a green 160JSSS (great car), then a later model silver 160JSSS liftback (not such a great car)
My restoration will be finished in time for the next meet. Really. No, REALLY. Maybe......

When everybody had 1600's I had a Fiat 125. Was true to Fiats of the 70's, and I bought it with a body full of rust. Derusted and repainted is was an extremly enjoyable car. I never lined up with my mates 1600's but would have been an interesting result. I owned a 2850 Torana, had a drag race with a well worn 1600 they seemed to go better with higher mileage on them, we were side by side till the 1600 ran out off steam, and bigger engine just pulled away. The 1600 was a great car.

I had a 74 Fiat 132 from 79 to 87. Was my second car after a 1960 Humber 80 that I had briefly when I left school.

The 132 was a great car that I didn't need as a daily driver to and from work so most of the driving was trips home for the weekend from the north Waikato through to Northland. Later it was trips from New Plymouth to Northland. Most of it was after dark, and in the cool of the evening the twin cam with twin throat weber used to really get along well. Disk brakes all round too. In my opinion went better than most of the other 1600s out there at the time. Its the one car I've owned that holds the most centimental value I think. Would have liked a 2 door 2 litre 131 but they were always more than I wanted to spend.

Speaking of Fiat's you can see one I brought off neighbour with blown motor. Think it was something like a 131 Supermiafiori (Similar, can't remember). Had tonnes of rust and had huge turbo (Which blew a piston). Motor was either 1800 or 2000. Sent it for rebuild and never heard anything to this day. Sold car as parts when moved house.
