New Z'er

Post by Gunmetal » Mon May 21, 2012 7:56 pm

Hey guys.
I have just bought my first 350Z, It's a silver 2004 Enthusiast model and it is absolutely amazing to drive. It's at 72,000km and had aftermarket rims put on prior to coming over from Japan (Monster 295's on the back).
The AA check suggested the clutch was on it's way out (engaging really late in the pedal return) and I factored that into the purchase price.
Since then I've noticed it slips under full power above about 4,000rpm and am keen to get it fixed ASAP.

I was wondering if anyone has had a clutch replaced, roughly how much you paid and any recomendations on mechanics in Auckland who are great with clutches and Z's. Also I am keen to get into a few track days in the coming years and wondered whether the standard clutch would do the job or should I think about something aftermarket?

Welcome to the forum. 8)

One of the others here will chime in on who to take your car to here for clutch replacement. A number of 350's here that run regular track days on the stock clutch.

Has anyone used Geddies or gearboxfactory?
Would either of them be a good place to go?

I just spoke to a guy from the gearboxfactory.
He said if the clutch is going the fly wheel probably will be too, quoted $3,900 just for parts.
This sounds like a lot to me.
Any help would be appreciated.

Geezzzz, an Exedy 350z clutch is about $650NZ +GST
Or Southbend does a DXD Clutch/Flywheel Combo from $1280NZ +GST
I'm not sure what brand he's specing but I'm baffeled at what an extra $2600 may get!

Hi

A gold plated clutch for that money i hope. Try John Arkley at Masterpart/Race Brakes in Eden Terrace Auckland 0800BRAKES. John is a Z club member. He and his staff know a little about brakes and clutches.
Alright they know a lot. From cars, trucks, buses, trains etc they should be able to help at good prices also.

Hope this helps

Anthony
