EFI to carb conversion?
EFI to carb conversion?
Hi guys,
As I said in my intro post, I'm new to Zeds so any help would be appreciated. One of the many areas of my S30 280Z that needs attention is the motor. The L28E is currently running the Bosch Jetronic fuel injection system, which, from what I can tell, is pretty horrible. I think it needs to go, and I'd like to go to a carb set up.
From my understanding, I'll need carbs, filters, manifold, fuel pump and other bits and pieces. Is there anyone out there with experience in doing this? What is the easiest and cheapest way to go about it here in NZ?
Thanks in advance, Pedey

We have used Hitech in Drury in the past, Bob Homeward can supply and tune Weber sidedraughts and Redline manifolds.
Best to use an airbox and remote filters in my opinion rather than filters in the engine bay, as the temperatures above the exhaust are very high, carbs must be seperated by a shield from the exhaust headers and using coated headers is recommended to keep engine bay temperatures down. Carb manifold should be longer if possible the stubby bent ones do not flow as well. If you're planning any headwork or a cam of course get that done before Bob starts work. Fuel pump recommendation, I have none for a road car, I run a Carter, its reliable but noisy as.

That would work for me, the problem would be finding a set, surely?
They are around, many have them gathering dust as the body may have rotted away but the carbs survived also many triple carb conversions have left behind a set of SU's. The "round top" versions seem to be preferred.Pedey wrote:That would work for me, the problem would be finding a set, surely?
I know of a set if you are serious.
They are the preferred 'round top''SUs. Left over from a triple conversion. They are in good condition, but not sure if they would be for sale.

!972 240z
Retirement is great. Growing old sucks.

Not sure but I might have set of 240z SU's can't remember now. But I know of another set too and I am sure they could be sold. I will find out for you.

These came off a Japanese L20, does anyone know if they would be of any use to me and secondly if the price is reasonable considering they need a rebuild etc? Thanks!

They are flat tops and some say not the most tuneable type, $200 is a good price but wait for some round tops.Pedey wrote:These came off a Japanese L20, does anyone know if they would be of any use to me and secondly if the price is reasonable considering they need a rebuild etc? Thanks!
