It's been a while since an update.
I've now got myself a proper mancave so things aren't so cramped.
Had to move everything for the Z and all my workshop stuff so it's great to lay it all out for the first time.

Now here's a question for you all:
What does a hand truck, a RB25 gearbox and 240z have in common.....????


Answer- when I'm trying to design a gearbox mount and I happen to see just the right curve in the hand truck handle then whala! Measure, Cut, weld. Well not quite that simple but. Used part in of the original gbox mount and had to take the 'ears' off the tunnel to get the box in without clashing.

I made another mount but it was a bit agricultural, worked but looked a bit ill considered, not what I want even for something under the car.

I also sorted out the engine mounts after setting up the engine again. Designed them so the use the original 240z mounts.
I don't like the idea of using nolathane like some kits do and have heard that don't last long so factory is best. You can buy heavy duty ones if I ever have issues.
Just need finish welding by my engineer friend.

Spent the other day putting on the doors and guards etc to get all the panel alignment right, well as good as it can be.
First time in many many years that things have been hung all at once. Quite a milestone I guess.
Engine came out after all the mounts were done and driveshaft measured. Really short - 601mm.

Mocked up the Carbon fibre bumper and lower spoiler. I was unsure if I was using the fibreglass big air dam or BRE style. I'm still unsure so I think I'll get both painted? Although I think I have a preference for the CF BRE? Thoughts anyone?

Also discovered the grille I have seems to have the bottom mounting points in the wrong place? Another modification I guess....

Oh well I'm pleased it's progressing. I think I found a painter I'm happy with too...GT Refinishers. They seem to have done some nice work. Anyone have any experience with them??

Looks good. Make sure you do your maths / research on driveshaft / universal alignment.

Yes. Angles are all ok.

I have my moments when I would.....then others when I wouldn't.

Re GT Refinishers - I used them to tidy up mine last year.
Very happy with the result.

Thanks for your comment. Personal experience is invaluable.
I'm pretty fussy about the quality and from what I've seen they take a pride in all their work.

My z is finally back on track after a long hiatus....child (now 5)....house build (not quite finished).... all that good stuff to slow it down!!
She’s just been painted. Almost 10yrs after i bought her she’ll be waiting for reassembly soon. Have virtually all I need to put her back together.

Wow looking good. It's really great to see the Zeds receiving this sort of treatment, thanks for posting on the forum. Please keep the pictures coming we all love to see these builds. There are a few happening at the moment especially since values are starting to be on the increase.
