Conversion from L28 to 350Chev

Post by loose_unit » Sat Feb 04, 2006 12:51 am

I am considering replacing my 280z (L28) engine with a 350 Chev with side exausts just behind the front wheels what do you guys think?

I am after information as to what modifications i would have to make to the car before it would be "Road Legal" and how much that is likely to cost?

Also information as to putting some serious carbhurettas on the existing L28 (as that is another option), what would be the best for power, reliability and cost effectiveness?

Any help apreciated, Cheers :)

I would check with the LTNZ if you are allowed to have exhaust that close to the door opening (if the car is going on the road - who cares)

There are number of 350 install here in NZ - rather than posting a lot of stuff here there is a great site with a whole section talking about the V8 install.

The site is Hybridz there is also a lot of info on L28's and L28ET.

Re the carbs etc - so what is the current setup on your L28? What are you after? More HP, better sound (yours sound great already)?, more acceleration/throttle response?

reliability...

the person who converted it to carb did a totally shit job and it doesn't run particullary well and i've had a very good mechanic looking at it rebuliding the carb and it went well for a day then fucked out again :( i can't drive 20km with out it cutting out and having to pull over on the side of the road.

i have enough parts to put it back to EFI but with all the electrical changes that have been made... well butcherd up i am wondering if it's better to stick with carbs or move to a v8?...

Also i do want a bit of a showey car with some real grunt as i plan to use it as a track day car also.

I have a stock L28 EFI wiring harness - if you like I can sell it to you - I was only going to use it to copy for my Megasquirt install - I want to de-loom the engine bay.
