240z power steering

Post by SR240Z » Tue Dec 21, 2021 6:35 pm

Hi there, has anyone had any experience with installing / getting certified a power steering on a 240z?

Silvermine in the states has a reasonable looking kit, wife is keen which means I get more wriggle room on spending 😉

My sister is also keen for her 69 240z

I changed mine to power steering, used a Subaru rack, its needs to be a rack that is mounted in front of the cross member. Had to change the engine mount bracket on the right side to fit it and also the steering shaft and also refabricate the rack mounting on the cross member. I made a bracket so the pump still runs off the original fan belt, not ideal but it works. Just bought a longer belt. Unless you are doing it all yourself it would cost heaps. I would suggest that a better option would be to buy an aftermarket electric system, these are mounted in your steering column. Would be the easiest and cheapest, and the manufacturers should have all the info for certs. My Subaru system was certified 15 years ago so not sure of the requirements now.

Here is a kit from The states, you would need to check it out as it is made for LHD cars https://www.silverminemotors.com/datsun ... 0-1978-s30

The Silvermine motors kit should arrive tomorrow so fingers crossed, I am assured it will work on a RHD car so lets see!
