Join us for a weekend away in the middle of the island to visit the famous Horopito Motors, yes the one that was in Goodbye Pork Pie!

This is shaping up to a really cool event. Confirmed, for those that would like to stay at the very well setup Slopes Ski Lodge, large lodge (will be off season obviously, at extremely reasonable prices).

For those that wish to stay elsewhere, here are a few suggestions:
http://plateaulodge.co.nz/
http://www.alpinechalets.co.nz/

Baker93 has more fun planned for us to keep most of us entertained! Including a bit of back country 4x4'ing for those keen, otherwise there is still plenty of outdoor activities around the area to keep others entertained and not to mention a spectacular area for any keen photographers. A full weekend event, for those that arrive at National Park on the Friday night.

For anyone keen on the outdoor activities, bring some solid boots/walking shoes if you can, raincoats, all the usual outdoor gear.
The last time the club stayed at Slopes we went tramping and caving, and general walking and exploring around this very picturesque area of the country.

Allowing everyone to arrive, and settle in first, get lunch, we'll be visiting Horopito Motors, at about 2pm (or earlier to allow more time there) on Saturday afternoon.

There are restaurants and eateries at National Park for breakfasts, lunches and dinner. And Slopes Ski Lodge has a very well set up kitchen for anyone that prefers to bring along their own food.

Hi all,

awesome, awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have never been here, then make sure you clear your calendar for it and chalk it up on your bucket list. It's definitely a visit not to be missed.

Went last time and had a ball of a time ducking, diving and scrambling around their labyrinth of sheds, not to mention the stacks of cars piled up in near countless paddocks.

Even though we were there last time for about four hours, we still didn't get around the whole site and there are some well hidden metal gems if one is prepared to go hunt them out.

I'm sure they still have a z buried deep in there somewhere just waiting to be found, that they have forgotten about, haha.

If you decide to come, would be very handy to bring a small torch or flashlight, as some of the sheds aren't well lit and virtually pitch black in places. Also a decent rain jacket, as the weather can flip on a dime.

I got that kid in a candy store feeling now and can't wait for the time to fly till then.

See you there!!!!

Well said Nigel!!! Could spend many hours wandering around this treasure trove of motoring history. Incredible amount of interesting old cars and other mechanical things to look at.

Hi all,

I had hoped to have my Z back on the road for this event, but a few problems have arisen with my motor rebuild that has pushed out the commission date too close, if not past this weekend.

No fear though, I'm still in for the weekend, but I'll be in me Toyota instead. Cheaper on the gas to boot also, hahaha.

Looking forward to finishing what I started last time, as there was plenty of places that I missed on having a good old scavenge, hahahaha.

I will be there on the Friday evening, as I've taken the day off work to make it as a relaxing trip as possible.

See you's there!!!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Anymore???!!

Horopito Motors, might be more recognised as where the old school movie "Smash Palace" was filmed. It's a seriously cool place to visit, so much to look at.

Also the subject of an eight part NZOA funded reality show on Sky called "Smashed Palace", good Heartland folk enjoying petrol fumes and certainly a parts hunters heaven and a colourful place.

Yep me to. Just had to much on. Got some unexpected business traveling I had to do. Makes it hard to organise stuff if so few people attend. As soon as a few drop out as can happen if makes the outing non viable. I wonder if folks who didn't come would chip in and tell us what they would be interested in doing.

Maybe we could try for January or March? What would suit?

Also maybe Baker93 can chime in, if the lodge is booked in January, with people being on holidays?
