tune or final gear

Post by Type1 » Wed Mar 25, 2015 9:56 pm

I am planning to get the 350z to run a bit more faster.

the car seem to be quite lazy (reving very slow)

what are your opinion on it.

tune it? or get 3.9 or 4.1 final gear?

3.9 and jwt clutch/lightweight flywheel? You'll never complain about rpm slowness again but it'll never rev like an s2000 if that's the issue :)

is it what you have?

3.9 is what I have in mind. new clutch just been installed.

haha....you are right, it will not rev like a s2000.

If it's slow revving I'd look for a lightweight flywheel..

Mine has no worries revving happy..

Could always be worth a swing by and we can see what's going on?

We recently fitted a 4.1 with a quaife LSD centre to Masao's 380RS, can recommend this as an excellent ratio and a big improvement over the 3.5

Shortens up all the gears and nicer cruising in 6th at 100kph doesn't feel bogged down.

We went through the local nissan wrecker they use the same size diff in the late model skylines and stageas and they are all different ratios we got a 4.1 and a 4.4 but decided on the 4.1

A little bit of mucking around getting the correct stub axle length and pattern to suit half shafts and LSD but not impossible

Well worth the effort don't know why Nissan didn't use this ratio as standard, on paper 7500 rpm in 6th is from memory about 265kph

My 6-speed manual has a diff ratio of 3.538 and a gearbox ratio of .794 in 6th gear, giving an overall ratio of 2.809, so at 6600 rpm in 6th the wheels are doing 2350 rpm. It has 245 x 45 x 18 tyres, so the circumference is 2.129 metres and 2350 rpm gives a speed of 5kms per minute or 300 kph! If it would pull 6600 rpm in 6th, that is.
A drop to a 4.1 diff would still give 260 kph in 6th.
The 6600 rpm speeds in the gears are; 1st = 63 kph, 2nd = 103 kph, 3rd = 147 kph, 4th = 187 kph and 5th = 238 kph.
If you change the diff to 4.1, those speeds become 54, 89, 127, 161 and 205 kph.
You should notice a significant improvement in 0 - 100 time, although there is an extra gear change required so you need to be pretty slick! Or rev it a bit more to reach 100 in 2nd.
