240z rear brake cylinders

Post by nustad » Sat Dec 13, 2014 2:27 pm

Hi Zedders - just checking in on options for getting new or refurbishing my rear brake wheel cylinders on my 72 240z. I have emailed Race Brakes and have seen lots for sale on eBay. Keen to buy local if possible.

The left side has started leaking.....

Cheers Glenn

Hi Glenn. Try Stirling Brake and Clutch or Just Brakes. They can stainless sleeve the cylinders and then you should never have problems. For best results use Silicon brake fluid. Normal brake fluid is rubbish, a corrosion magnet, paint stripper and that's all its good for. I have used silicon brake fluid for 14 yrs without 1 issue and with the car sitting for up to 6 months never once had a seized cylinder

Hey Glenn. I replaced my rear shoes with new ones from Stirling, and finally had a hand brake. Different/better compound i guess.

Yep - pads quite worn but being coated in brake fluid is not so helpful either.........
