Playday on Track Southern Tour - March 2015

Post by old_datto_fan » Wed Aug 06, 2014 12:46 pm

I have registered to do this tour in March and there are still a few spots left. I have talked to a couple of people who were on the last one and they said it was a great week.

Email playday@playdayontrack.co.nz if you are interested. Details as below.

All 4 South Island Tracks in 1 week
For the track day enthusiast this is an opportunity of a life time to experience all four of New Zealand’s South Islands racetracks in one week including the acclaimed Highlands in Cromwell.
Last years Tours were a raging success so if you missed out or want to do it again now is the time.

However you decide to get between venues is up to you as long as you are on time for registration. Carve up some of the best roads in New Zealand between tracks or have a casual drive with friends and family and enjoy the fabulous scenery the South Island has to offer.
This trip will be one to cross off your bucket list.
Bike and car entry & transport options are below.

DATES:

TERETONGA FRIDAY 13 MARCH EVERYONE
TERETONGA MONDAY 16 MARCH BIKES ONLY
HIGHLANDS MONDAY 16 MARCH CARS ONLY
LEVELS WEDNESDAY 18 MARCH EVERYONE
RUAPUNA THURSDAY 19 MARCH EVERYONE

SPECIAL NOTE: PLEASE READ

Last year at Highlands the bikes were too noisy & as a result Highlands have put so many restrictions on Bikes we basically cant run them there.
Cars must be under 65dba at the Boundary, As a guide you need your car to be under 75dba a few meters from the exhaust when it is running within 20% of its rev limit.

Instead the Bikes will do 2 days at Teretonga while the Cars do Highlands on 16 March. (Highlands will be a 4 hour session between 12.30pm & 4.30pm but with only 3 Groups there will be plenty of Track Time.)
This creates a bit of a logistical issue so before entering this event we are asking those that definitely want to do it reply to us now with the following information:

Name
Group Required
Vehicle Type
Race Car or Classic Trials Car or Road Car
Trailered or Driven

Do not make any payment yet, we will ensure we can make all the logistics work then ask for your deposit.

There will be 3 Car Groups & 2 Bike Groups, details below:

PRESTIGE GROUP

Road cars only, slicks are not allowed. Qualifies for Track day cover if you are insured with Prestigio but remember to confirm with them prior to the event. Porsches approved for the Porsche Group may also enter.
This group is limited to 10 cars so please check with us before paying to confirm there are still places available.

NORMAL CAR GROUPS
There will be 2 groups, each limited to 17 cars.

BIKES
2 groups available:

The Bikes get 2 days at Teretonga, Day 1 with the Cars & Day 2 (Monday 16 March) to themselves, although we may run 1 group of Cars at Teretonga that day.

When entering let us know which group you wish to be in.

Fast - For the Racer or Fast sport rider well experienced on the track

Medium - Sports Bikes & Motards

ENTRY COST FOR ALL 4 TRACKS
Its up from last year for 2 reasons.
Price increases at all Tracks plus the splitting of the Cars & Bikes between Teretonga & Highlands means we have an additional Track Hire as well.

Prestige Group: $1500
Normal Car Group $900
Bikes $700 (2 Days at Teretonga no Highlands)

Bikes will have a limit of 23 per group.

ABOUT THE TOUR

Your only obligation is to be at each track on the day specified.

The Road Trip:

We will be travelling down the West Coast & through Wanaka & Queenstown on our way to Invercargill and anyone wanting to travel with us is welcome to, we will send you our schedule & a list of the accommodation we will be using. This year the group that did that trip had a ball & the one Australian Rider who came over to do it said when he reached Invercargill that the ride was so good he would be happy if that's all he was doing. He was even more stoked by the end of the week, so hopefully you will be back with some more Aussies .
There will be various (all optional) runs between tracks, we have found some excellent roads down there.

Bike Tranz can collect your bike from their depots in Auckland or Kapiti or collect from a single location in Hamilton or Tauranga & have them at each track on the morning of the event then return them to the pick up point after the last event at Ruapuna. Cost is around $800 inc GST but subject to fluctuations depending on the cost of fuel etc. Please contact them direct on biketranz@xtra.co.nz

Accommodation:

We will send out a list of where we are staying, you can choose to stay there or elsewhere but we would like you in Invercargill on the evening of Thursday 12 March for Documentation.

Evening Functions

Like the rest of the tour these are optional, we will stay in places where there are food & drink facilities on site or close by.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

HIGHLANDS

The noise limit at Highlands is 65dba at the boundary. This is part of their resource consent so they must monitor it carefully & comply or they could be shut down.
If your car is over the limit you will get one chance to quieten it & if you don’t comply you will not be able to run there. (And there will be no refund of part of your entry).
As a guide you need the car to be under 75dba a few meters from the exhaust when it is running within 20% of its rev limit.

LEVELS

Levels Racetrack at Timaru started life “out in the country” but now has a number of neighbours. As a result the track can only be hired 75 days per year & they have a few rules they must abide by, including running all events under Motorsport NZ rules.
Those rules flow on to us & must be respected. As a result the following must be complied with & it really isn’t difficult

1. Noise levels must not exceed 95.0dBA (That’s fairly loud)
2. Helmets must meet Motorsport NZ Current standards. These can be found in the Motorsport NZ manual or on their website. The numbers on the Helmet are usually located inside the lining or on the neck strap.
3. Overalls must be CLEAN & Fire Retardant or Self Extinguishing. 100% Cotton is deemed self extinguishing. (Poly Cotton blends do not comply) Enclosed footwear must be worn.
4. A Fire Extinguisher, minimum 1kg Powder or 1 ltr Foam securely mounted in the vehicle with a metal bracket that has 2 metal straps. (Super Cheap & Mitre 10 mega have these for around $30.00)
5. Oil catch can, this is mainly for modified cars as most standard vehicles vent the crank case back into the air intake system, any vehicle venting the crank case to the atmosphere must be fitted with an oil catch can.
6. Secured Battery, factory metal brackets are fine unless your car has a modification that requires something more.

Scrutineering at Levels will be done by Levels scrutineers as per their request; this will not be hard but a general safety check. As your car will either be up to race or WOF standard there should be no problem.

Riding gear requirements for Motorcyclists;
To participate in Playday Events you’ll need some essential riding gear. Listed below are the minimum requirements.
• Leather jacket and leather pants which zip securely together (no textile clothing permitted);
• Leather motorcycle boots (boots must overlap pants or pants must overlap boots, so as no skin or other clothing can be seen);
• Leather motorcycle gloves – gloves with carbon fibre or Kevlar knuckling and/or palms are strongly recommended (gloves must overlap jacket sleeves i.e. no wrist length gloves);
• Full-face helmet minimum of New Zealand, Australian, DOT or Snell approved, visor must be correctly secured;
• Back protectors are not mandatory but strongly recommended.

REFUND POLICY

Once the event is fully subscribed we will start a waiting list. If any one who has entered finds they can not make the trip we will refund them ONLY if we can find someone to take the spot.

Reading between the lines, I don't think spare places will be there for too long so you need to commit sooner rather than later. Have a look at the Playday website for more info although I don't think there were any links there for this event. If you do a google search for "playday southern tour" you will find several links to facebook and youtube links.

My Younger brother and his wife did it last year and had a ball. He recommends it to everyone he meets.

I am tempted but it is just the towing mission from one end of the country to the other that puts me off. If you have a driveable vehicle and can enjoy the roads and the sights along the way makes for an awesome trip.

Anyone got a car transporter that wants to do it too :)
