280zx brake master

Post by Karljsw » Tue Jun 28, 2016 3:05 pm

hey guys

my brake master cylinder is leaking where it joins onto the booster.

just wondering if anyone has rebuilt one before or know where to get a kit to rebuild one? have done a Google search to no prevail.

other wise I'll have to get a new unit off ebay which might end up being the cheaper option

Try Just Brakes in Penrose. I used them for a kit 2 years ago. It is easy to it yourself.
Stirling Brakes in Onehunga are good for service, advice and supplies as well.

Just took the master off the car. Looks like it is a 7/8 master with a 280zx booster.

Should I replace this with a 15/16 or the wilwood 1" for front and rear discs?

Start with the 15/16" (if you can find one) there are many variables, engine weight, swept area, calliper piston size, pedal ratio, proportioning ratio etc.

The 15/16" swap appears most common and is the easiest, your results may differ.

A twin master cylinder setup is the most configurable but is far from stock.

I have a 15/16 in my car. Toyota Calipers, non vented but slotted and drilled discs, Maxima calipers on the rear, again only slotted and drilled discs. Brakes work great, need good foot pressure though.

I have a similar set up as Bernjean. Toyota 4pots and vented Honda Legend rotors. I used a 1 inch m/c from a Nissan patrol. Straight bolt on and way less pedal travel.
