L20A 5 Speed Box

Post by HasMilk » Mon Aug 25, 2014 7:44 pm

So today I meet this guy who's doing a deal with my flatmate and he's taken interest in my 3 speed Zed (as ya do). I gave him a brief about it and mentioned the 5 Speed box I took out of a blue ZX (L20A w/ 5 speed), he reckons there might be a difference in the length from the bell housing to the shifter between the boxes. Could somebody please confirm this? I am yet to get a tape measure out but I had assumed all would be good, I also have the driveshaft/pedals and an RB 6 hole flywheel.
Thanks in advance.

Oh, and he knows of an old ZX going for cheap (dereg, manual l28 in a turbo chassis) so I might have a look at that too :)

All of the S130 Nissan manual gearboxes (not T5s) are the same length, and as far as I know the earlier Z boxes are the same length too. HR30 Skylines and some other Datsuns had what they call stumpy or short 5 speeds.
Nissan 280ZX 2 seater RB26 powered.

Thanks dj, I thought I would be fine :D
I might also try hunt down a 9 bolt rb flywheel so I can fit the 240mm clutch, the one I have now is only 6 bolt.
