Tokico Struts in a 260z??

Post by mobileman » Fri Mar 07, 2008 9:08 am

Technical question for the guru's out there.

Have been looking at upgrading my suspension on a stock standard '78 260z (2+2)

On the US ebay, they have TOKICO upgrade kits for either early (70 - 74) or late 260z's (74 - 78).
Research tells me that i need the 70 - 74 kit - as the US 260z model changed to the later 280z long before the NZ/AUS.

Is this assumption correct?
I'm slightly confused as i also understand there is a difference between the NZ 240z and 260z front spring length.

Any help appreciated

Cheers

240z front spring perch is 25mm (or 1" in old school terms) higher on the strut so the spring is therefore shorter.

No you will want the later kit as all 2+2 have the taller suspension setup - you are getting confused with the 2 seater range that had different setups depending on the age of the 260z in question. All 2+2 have the later/larger suspension setup.

You are also confused with the US spec 280z aka S30 body as in 240z/260z type body sytle and the 280zx S130 which was also sold in Japan as a Fairlady 280z this is where people get confused. Best is to look at the chassis code as in GRS30 = 2+2 260z or GHS130 = 2+2 280zx is is the S30 or S130 that lets to know the body style.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that clarification - could have been an expensive mistake!
