Also here is an attachment showing the jet partnumber for the early 240z carbs like yours. #66 in the image aka pre 08-71 carbs and Jet N-27 the later 240z carbs use Jet N-54

I think you have one of each Jet in your carbs an early version jet and the later version jet.

I take that back. It is not the jet.....those appear to in the body still now I have better look. So it might be 2 different versions of number 73 which is a packer. Either way I am picking one is correct for the early 4 top 240z SU and the other is from the later 3 screw top 240z SU.

Gave the girl a clean, then got it dusty with a heavy foot on some gravel roads. time to clean it again.

Lovely shots of your Zed. That gravel on the road is a bit of pest, but the beach at the end is worth it.

Hi,

Im looking into options for a new exhaust for the Z, Im wanting something to give it a little more sound, but not too loud.

I will be keeping the original exhaust for when I want to go back to stock so would like something bolt up.

Are there any good options?

or exhaust shops in AK anyone recommends?

Just after a nice tone, its my weekend car so happy to have it a little louder than it currently is.

2.25 inch pipe
Resonator in the trans tunnel
Decent heavy steel muffler which is relatively straight through.

I have a luki one but don't know what is out there these days.....

Wolf Mufflers in Dominion Road have been around for a long time.

Al's Mufflers in Glenfield used to be a go to place but dunno if they still are.....

I have a stock 240z motor..........the main benefit is aural - not sure if it gave me more power or torque. It might rev a bit more freely.....

Hi guys,

Spent a few hours today talking with Brian (thanks so much for all your help and knowledge) Im very new to Datsuns and cars in general so im learning everything as fast as I can.

Being a US import, the car has the air pump and smog parts attached. Ive been doing some reading and there seems to be a lot of debate on whether they should be removed or not. If they are not working (which being 45 years old im guessing its not completely up to scratch) they should be removed and capped?

So im tempted to do the same. Does anyone have any recommendations? it certainly look alot cleaner and less cluttered!

It really depends on what you want, an original car or a modified car, if you want to concourse the car, original is best, you would have to ask some of the club members with the knowledge as to how far you can go before the judges will pick up the changes, if that's not your bag, the next question is how environmentally conscious you are and should it all be working to protect the planet :D If neither of these are a worry rip it out and cap the holes, then put it all in a box marked "240z spare parts do not throw out" :D And enjoy the cleaner looking and easier motor to work on.

interesting point on the concours, I hadnt thought of that. Though with most cars not having the system from standard, im not sure If it would be an issue or not.

The car gets driven once a week, maybe once ever two weeks, I commute to work on a bicycle, so the whole clean air thing isnt a factor to me. I think im doing my part just fine! So far this year I have ridden to work everyday haha. lets just say its been a LOOONG winter.

I would be interested to know if the 45 year old system is still working and how the car would run without it..

I wouldn't worry about a change like that......I would probably take it off.........
