Steering lock failure?

Hello people,

Ok, my car cannot start no matter how hard I tried.

Intelligent key warning light is on and I can't turn it to ACC mode.

I did google a lot and found out that if I could hit that silver box below steering wheel, could do the trick but sadly no luck.

Anyone knows how to turn it to acc mode or had similar problem?

Also has this been covered as 'recall' from NISSAN new zealand before?

I contacted three different branches in Auckland and none of them replied me. haha

I've seen many posts about this issue on the UK 350z/370z sites in the past. Sorry I can't remember what the answer was, been ages since read about it.
If Zmanalex replies, listen, this man knows his 350 & 370's having worked on goodness knows how many.

With regards to recall, I'm not sure for NZ. But it is a known problem & quite well documented.

It's worth checking out www.my350z.com being the largest forum globally for the 350/370.

Hopefully you manage to sort it, if you do, please flick up a post for your findings to help others here in the future. :)

Just had the same thing happen to my 2013 370Z auto.
Currently, after 5 hours last night, the car is with Armstrong Nissan in Lower Hutt.
They have said it needs a new steering lock unit at $2000+ and their time to work on it comes up to $2600 including Grab, Snatch and Take.
Had a simlar thing a few years ago with my 2009 model but that was covered under an earlier recall.
And with the covid situation it's going to be about 8 weeks for a part to come from Japan.
Damn

That sort of cost of parts is unforgivable especially if it is coming from Japan. these parts guys are absolutely creaming it. It's not like they are stocking it.

Yes the steering wheel lock failure is a known 370z/Z34 issue. Let us know how you get on.

I should add that with support from one of the team at Armstrong Nissan, Nissan NZ refunded a third of the cost of the part required.

Good to see them support their products, If I remember back to the 70's it was quite normal to have problems with new cars. They used to joke about buying a Friday car.
