Clonk when engaging drive or reverse

Post by mudgripz » Tue Nov 06, 2018 9:47 pm

My 2004 Zed has only 135ks but has a significant clonk when engaging drive or reverse. On hoist it does not appear to have much movement where shaft meets diff, and both rear CVs seem good. Wondering what else it could be. Put some heavier REdline oil in diff but no change? Warn mounts? Brilliant car - just can't diagnose this one fault..

Call Auckland Automatics and have a chat with them. One of the guys here at work had something similar, and also holding gears to long. They new straight away what the problem was. Turned out to be a corroded throttle body, nothing to do with gearbox at all. We swapped out for S/H item and problem solved.

Throttle Bodies aren't an unusual problem. Not saying it's that. Bernie made a good suggestion.

Failing that, have a search on one of the more sensible big overseas 350 forums, pretty much every conceivable problem has been discussed there.

Would also recommend doing a "pedal dance" on our forum here, in the 350 section. That will give you any fault codes, but you do have to be quite precise with timing.
