2007 MG Classic Race Weekend

10 and 11 November, Manfield Park, Feilding.

This November will see the 22nd MG Classic again featuring two days of classic and historic racing at Manfeild circuit in the Manawatu.

The MG Car Club also welcomes the return of the largest collection of Formula 5000 cars in the world. These will feature in two preliminary races and a Grand Prix event on the Sunday that matches (some say surpasses) Formula 1, A1 GP and Indy Cars, as a spectacle. And these guys just do it for the fun.

As usual there will be four seperate time group races for classic sports and saloon cars. As these grids are now pushing the maximum allowed on the circuit the organisers will be inviting entries to be lodged for consideration as soon as possible after these open. It is expected that entry forms and regulations inviting applications to enter will be circulated by August and be open for four weeks.

It is anticipated that there will be special grids for Muscle cars, Historic Racing cars, New Zealand build/Component Sports cars and Super Sedans sympathetic to the history and traditions of New Zealand Motorsport. Some of these groups, in particular the New Zealand built/Component cars, are also now reaching the maximum allowed and it will be a matter of early entries being considered first.

Certificates of Description will be required for all cars entered under Schedules AA and K. It is understood that Motorsport NZ will be undertaking some low key audits to remind people that CODs need to be up to date.

This year, after careful consideration of the need to limit costs, impacts on entry fees and the general context of classic motor sport, the organisers have decided that traditional manual timekeeping will be retained for the foreseeable future.

The Saturday evening dinner is a great opportunity for participants, partners and their support groups to meet others from around the country. The enforcement of fire regulations will mean a strict limit on tickets. All entrants will receive one with their entry. Additional tickets will need to be applied for with entries as the only extras available on the day will come from the occasional return.

For those interested, some new opportunities for race sponsorship have recently opened up. These, and opportunities for programme advertising can be discussed with Terry Collier or Bob Hulena.
