Track Laps and Breakfast - Highlands Cromwell 15th october

Post by Skiwi » Wed Oct 11, 2017 5:48 pm

I'm really looking forward to breakfast this weekend as I've booked in here this Sunday - http://www.highlands.co.nz/action-exper ... breakfast/

While its only a couple of laps it still seems really cheap for a chance to loosen the reins on the Z without having to keep looking in the rear-view for the receding Popo ;)

As an added bonus I'm selling it to the wife as a chance to spend some quality time bonding over breakfast

I'll do a follow up post next week on how it goes.

Cheers
Paul

Why hello... :P (see attachment)

I was there for the track laps in the red R32 Skyline. :)

Looking at going back in either December or January maybe, hopefully with some more Southern Skylines members. Can't go to this months, as it's the same day as our clubs charity cruise in Dunedin: https://www.facebook.com/OtagoCommunity ... ityCruise/

Nice looking Z you have anyway! I didn't actually know it was there until we were walking back to the car.

Hiya yourself.

And thanks for the photo and reminder to follow up with a report.

I’d do it again but I would be far more strategic about which batch I went with and where in the pack I sat on the lead out to the track.
I’m sure the pace set by the Highlands pace car was sprightly but without wanting to name and shame I ended up behind a young fella taking his Nan around the track in the family wagon, so felt I couldn’t press him too hard. Having said that I was still able to button off enough so that I could play “catchupâ€￾ which did get the needle off the dial a couple of times 😈

Skylineobsession, I’m going to make it a semi regular event so we will have to share a breakfast table at some stage and moan about those old slow muscle cars 😉
Cheers

Sounds good. :)

Yeah, i don't like the way they operate the classes. It's on a first in first served type model. It should be something like Experienced (been around the track before, and know how to handle your car), amatuer (may or may not have been around the track before, and may or may not know how to handle your car) and beginner (new to the track and careful with car) type groups.

I'd suggest it to them, but i don't think it would change. :( I realise it isn't a race, and it wasn't top speed i was after (lucky if i got to 120?), but i was more interested in the corners. You can kinda see in my vids that i back off before some of the corners (carousel, bus stop, first corner etc) so that i can take them and actually feel some g-force.

I ended up going at a much nicer pace than the whole track experience, through the Manuka Gorge on the way back to Dunedin! But it's still cool being on a track, so have to go back. Looking like probably January when i go back again.
