Datsun Owners Club NZ, Annual Taupo Cruise, Labour Weekend

Post by RPV1 » Wed Aug 05, 2009 7:38 pm

... Which, I believe is 24th - 26th October.

This is an annual Datsun 'allsorts' cruise. All types (and ages) turn up and it's pretty informal. Make your way to Taupo on Saturday - some 'mini-cruises' are informally organised for people coming from similar locations. It's low-key and pleasant and simply offers an opportunity to cruise, drive, drink, eat , play and talk Datsuns (suprising how often 'Nissan' comes up in the conversation though). We get around 20-30 cars, plus drivers, passengers and assorted camp followers.

Saturday evening is a lakefront meetup, drinks and dinner - usually at Breakers.

Sunday is the cruise proper. Normally it's a circuit of the lake but this year we're thinking of a Desert Road special with a visit to Horopito (remember "Smash Palace"?). It's a moveable feast.

Sunday night - again informal. "room party" rings a bell...

Breakfast on Monday - normally at McDonalds - for revivers, trophy awards, farewells etc.

I'll wave as I drive through Taupo on my way to Targa - as I did last year.
