280z value guide

Post by edynz » Wed Jan 20, 2021 6:35 am

Hi there,

Newbie to the forum here so maybe this is something that is discouraged on posting, happy to discuss via PM.

Recently fell in love with the classic Z cars and will be on the lookout specifically for a 280z running but in rough to OK shape
Plan is to track auctions from here on out.

But does anyone in the club keep track of what these cars are going for, spreadsheet OR database they would be willing to share, please? :D

I found a few posts around 240z prices in 2017 and have spotted a couple on TradeMe.

240z
60k TradeMe Auto, looks mint, Jan 2020 (this one may have sold?)
90k TradeMe Man, looks mint, Jan 2020

260z
55k mentioned in Jan 2020 post
50k mentioned in Jan 2020 post

280z
couldn't find anything yet...

280zx +2
15k TradeMe Man, rough looking one Jan 2020
25k TradeMe Man, for decent Jan 2020 (this one may have sold too?)
30k TradeMe Man, for minter Jan 2020

If not, will record and share findings when i have a decent record.

Thanks
Ed

Hey Ed, are you looking for an S30 (original 240/260 shape) or an S130, being the next shape and generally known as a 280ZX in these parts.?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't realize 280z/zx was one and the same.

As i understand these only came to NZ/AUZ as a +2 / rear seats.
Ideally was after the 280z 2 seater only (prefered profile look)
But from what I read, a standard import 280z would not meet NZTA criteria to remain a LHD = adding that to the 'to do' list is probably stretching my budget and definitely my skills!

If a 2 seater S130 pops up in NZ I will go for this.
Otherwise a s130 280ZX +2 it is. Our dog Turnip will be happy to still have a place to sit in the back. :)

Still 5-10 months away from buying, we are moving down south this year, need to find a house with double garage first. Only then can I begin the pain/joy of restore :)

Cheers,
Ed

You can import a LHD 280z as a special interest vehicle https://www.nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/impor ... -vehicles/

Many members have done so or own vehicles that have been brought in by others.

Good Luck in your search, bringing one in from USA is the cheapest option generally.

Datsun 280z is on the list for LHD granted permits. Page 8
