I did this conversion on my s30 280z before I sold it. Used wilwood rotors 1.25" wide I think they were 11.75" od from memory. They were alloy r32 calipers not sure of exact model. Seemed to work well.

I'm looking forward to seeing you develop the car too. I have that paint here now and the LHD permit which I forgot to give you last Sunday too, let me know when you're passing through or whatever.

I just had a look at that MS Auto balancer and tend to agree, wouldn't be viable to build one from scratch economically. If I can find a balancer cheap enough I may have a go as I work in an engineering shop so can make the adaptor boss for nothing except my time. But even then it's marginal. Thanks...

hey that's awesome thanks! my pulley has two grooves but the aircon has been removed so only one groove needed. I might start looking on tm for a bmw balancer. Is the diameter of your new pulley smaller than standard to underdrive the pump and alternator? Looks quite small.

Hi Anthony, thanks for the reply.
I will look for a BMW balancer to modify. I can make the new pulley section. I take it the BMW balancer uses multi rib belts rather than vee belts? Just hope I get the right model balancer. Are they different to the E30 3 series six cylinder ones?

using BMW balancer?

Hi guys, I removed my front pulley today to replace the oil seal and found that the pulley is stuffed. Corrosion where the seal runs and cracked through the keyway. I have heard that a lot of guys run a BMW balancer, what model BMW are they from? I am aware they need adapting but can anybody give me...

to bring some closure to this old thread, I did indeed finish this brake conversion and it works great! Ended up using R32 calipers and wilwood curved vane rotors with ali mounting hats. cnc plasma cut adapter brackets. Will try get some photos up at some point if anyone is interested, I'm very busy...

First WOF in 13 years yay!

FINALLY got a warrant on the old girl, I didn't realise it had been 13 years, the WOF guy was a bit blown away when he entered it in the computer and told me it hasn't had a WOF since 1998! Best thing was she went straight through. Now to get some enjoyment from it, rather than just working on it! J...

wow some good discussion on this thread now! I think we would all agree that there is always more than one way to skin a cat. I already had the skyline calipers in the shed doing nothing so decided to use them. I hope they don't need a full set of pistons- they look a a bit average though I want to ...

Yip, definately look at other options(Toyota caliper not great). They are old, heavy and need rebuilding which makes em expensive. Endless trouble with mine. Are the kits to overhaul them expensive? I think the skyline caliper would take the same or very similar kit. What sort of endless trouble ha...

minor update: tried a 16x8 zero offset superlite over the brakes and there is tons of room. They seem to have a lot more caliper clearance than my wheels. Unfortunately haven't had access to 15x8s and haven't been able to find any info on the net. have also bought some rotors so once they are fitted...

Good to know there is a bigger caliper that will bolt straight up- I'm guessing the Jag calipers would be cast iron though? I try not to add too much weight- the 280z is heavy enough to start with! Tonight I mocked up a bracket and bolted it all up, everything clears and seems to fit pretty well. No...

big brakes- not toyota

After finding my front calipers need overhauling and also reading up on the toyota hilux type brake conversion, I decided to look a bit further and try some alloy skyline 4 pot calipers I have in the shed. Has this been done? It looks like it could be done with a fairly simple bracket to adapt to th...
