Re: Help identifying trim (06)

Yeah, the trim level. Sorry about not being particularly clear. Being a fairlady, they used different trim names, as the Enthusiast, Track etc was an export naming convention. In Japan for the fairlady's they had: - Base (cloth seats, standard brakes, no LSD) - Sport (cloth seats, LSD & Brembo'...

Re: Datsun 280ZX IMSA GTU race car build...

Slowly getting there... It had a few hours run time today, to get the fuel map and other bits tuned to some sort of base line. Some very minor oil leaks to fix, but otherwise went flawlessly. Some 'debris' found in the oil filter after cutting it open, but nothing serious, just shows it works. Runni...

Re: 2007 Fairlady Z33 Version NISMO

Didn't get very far with the exhaust, as the original one is a bit rusted so could not get the flange undone at the headers. Will wait a week or so and get it on a hoist in case the grinder needs to make an appearance. I will also fit a new 3.5 ratio VLSD to give it a little more buzz over the stock...

Re: 2007 Fairlady Z33 Version NISMO

Just when I didn't have enough to do on the 280zx, thought a few more jobs is necessary. Fitted the Works Bell (Japan) Z33 Column Shifter (paddle shifter) for a bit of fun. Took it for a short test drive and it works a treat. It only works when you are in manual (tip-tronic) mode. They attach to the...

Re: Datsun 280ZX IMSA GTU race car build...

That is a light car, wdll done. Fun with I assume 250-300hp it should fly. I too assume you (or driver ballast weight was not in it). Since you have all the adjustable suspension might be worth chasing cross weights with driver weight. There is a good video on it here https://youtu.be/jpuztcGQM9k?f...

Re: Datsun 280ZX IMSA GTU race car build...

Were you sitting in it when weighed? If not that will swing the bias from left to right. When you say alignment complete, did that include weight jacking , or is that still to come? Not sure what it's called, but yes, alignment was undertaken by the Koni Racing Shock suspension guru, not just a 'wh...

Re: Datsun 280ZX IMSA GTU race car build...

Ok, nearly as exciting as what the engine will produce... here is the weight of the car with all fluids and 20L of fuel: 1153 kg (2540 lb's) I assume weight difference at the rear is due to the Dry-Sump oil tank being pretty much over the top of the LH rear wheel. The front I guess is all down to th...

Re: Datsun 280ZX IMSA GTU race car build...

Even closer now. Running in oil (Penrite 10tenths) added and pump primed and run so oil is everywhere but the cooler due to the oil thermostat. Looks like it takes around 10L of oil! Water added for now but will be drained out later and replaced with motorsport coolant/corrosion inhibiter. New water...

Re: Datsun 280ZX IMSA GTU race car build...

Truly understand how much time, effort and racecar dollars (which are not like real dollars) go into these projects. Can wait for the dyno results and to see it in person. Well done to get to the finish line. Yeh, very true... you need to start by digging a big hole, and when done, make it deeper. ...

Re: 2007 Fairlady Z33 Version NISMO

Do you still have the centre console/cubby bits? I'm thinking seriously about replacing the Japanese satnav screen in mine for something vaguely useful, so I may be interested in buying it from you if you still have it. I've no idea what they're worth though. I just PM'd you. I will be keeping it n...

Re: Datsun 280ZX IMSA GTU race car build...

Well its pretty much done. A few under bonnet things being corrected, and some minor jobs being finished now. So will get a wheel alignment next week fingers crossed, and then oil priming & water leak test before the big day! https://i.imgur.com/4frYbJPl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/gZ7lLvkl.jpg http...

Re: 2007 Fairlady Z33 Version NISMO

I had to replace my radiator, so got a Koyorad unit. [Japanese brand, but made in Indonesia] Visually its very nice and fits like a glove. All factor mounting points were spot on. The AC condenser and fans were easier to install than they were to remove from the original unit. My original unit laste...

Re: Datsun 280ZX IMSA GTU race car build...

Woo Hoo, excellent. What's your plan for running in, just on the dyno or something a bit more detailed? Just on the dyno. Hopefully it goes more or less first time... and then want to run it for say ~1 hour non-stop at 1500~2000 rpm to run the cam in. Thats what Kameari recommended, I'll put a brea...
