no response ay?
but if you hold it at idle speed with your foot on the gas, it idles when warm ok?
if so that points to the aux air bypass valve (idle speed control valve in other words)

I'm happy to report, the car is reving freely now and goes much better. I bought a new timing light (complete with rev counter and its one of the ones you can change the amount of advance on the light so you just have to line up the pully with tdc on the crank case). when the fault occured, i notice...

Thanks everyone for the ideas. i'll check out the alternator belt tension for sure and see if it ups the charge voltage a bit. i'll try to get it charging better also - regardless. thanks for the pointer regarding the location of the panel to inspect the fuel tank also. and re the injector testing, ...

Appreciate the thoughts Andy, Yeah from what i read (yesterday after i posted to Zclub forum), people say these EFI/Ignition systems are sensitive to low system voltage. so yeah, not sure. also i'm not sure how to test if its the problem, barring putting in a fully charged battery and trying it. alt...

1979 280z l28e, wont rev past 4k

Hi all. i just wanted to run what i'm doing by the group, to see if there is anything i have missed. The car is a Jap domestic model and is injected. it has a module on the side of the distributor. it has extractors fitted and the O2 sensor removed. the o2 sensor cable going to the ECU has nothing c...

Awesome, thanks for the photo's. from changing the diff oil, i remember the filler was off to the right so that makes it an R200. Cheers for the photo ID. The speedo may have been wrong from the factory, changing the drive gear would be the easiest way to fix it. What year is the car and is it auto ...

It's a 1979 2+2 5speed manual.
Where they wrong from the factory? Wow...
It's revving a bit high, and using a bit of gas, so wondering if it's wheels or dif.(nothing scientific done to measure fuel use yet)
I've checked after market wheels, and they are very close to original tires circumference.

thanks again DJZ (this is getting to be a habit thanking you). I'd appreciate if you can confirm the numbers from some of your air flow sensors for me. Cheers and thanks again. I've just noticed the speedo is reading 10km/h slow on this car as well (when will it end)... the tires are not standard, b...

Actually, while i've got your attention here. could you verify also if any of your cars have a large black cylinder attached to the bottom of the throttle body with a plug in the bottom. its a bit smaller than a beer can. its appears to be doing service, quite effectively, as the idle speed control....

Yes your right.
It would be nice to try to keep the car a bit standard, although I'm starting to wonder if it has had a laurel engine fitted into it At some stage,so a bit late for that, perhaps causing some of the running issues I'm finding with it.
Cheers and thanks again.

Thanks DJS, i really appreciate your reply. I hate to sound like a doubter, but this car is throwing me a little. have you seen Air flow meters without air temp sensors in these cars yourself? everything i look at on the net (mostly US i supose) shows an air temp sensor in the circuit diagram. even ...

1979 280Z Japan domestic market Air temp sensor and O2 senso

Gidday. can anyone confirm if a 1979 280z (injected) japan domestic car should have an air temp sensor inside the air flow meter, and also if they come with an O2 sensor? The car i have here (I'm my mates pet mechanic - its his car) has no air temp sensor in the intake side of the air flow sensor, a...
