past owner of LQ8951 (1980 280ZX)

Purely out of curiosity. I am looking to connect with anyone who might have past info on LQ8951 - 1980 280ZX. I have online records and currently own the car. Someone had taken care of this car before me (restored - rust work done underneath and sealed well, interior retrimmed except for seats and f...

I stored both my 280ZXs in 20ft containers at a place called Royalwolf. Cost at the time was about $150 per month per unit. It was not cheap but was the best rate at the time. Also keep in mind that these were not so sought after 280ZXs so I was okay with the basic security level (keypad entry and e...

Interesting to see the dry sump setup. I am not sure if this is related, but Castrol just announced the below. I think it applies to cars with a dry sump. Haven't looked into it yet, but thought I might share as I am going to keep an eye on this.

I had an issue where fuel filter would clog up and car would stall or keep hunting as you describe. Stopping and starting again would get me moving again and it would repeat after some time. I found rust in the tank that was building up at fuel filter. You metioned that you have cleaned out the tank...

This doesn't sound related but check inside of fuel tank to see if there is any bits of rust that could be constricting the flow of fuel through the filter at the higher flow rate. There is a hatch under boot carpet. Also maybe the fuel rail is always draining back to the tank. fuel pressure regulat...

S130 photo shoot

Hey All! I have come back to beautiful NZ for a short break. Pulled out my ZX out of storage and she fired up without any hassles after a couple of years sitting. Have had 400ks of amazing scenic driving with the targas off and she drives beautifully!! I haven't seen any S130s on the road and was wo...

Nice find! To think that I am looking at restoring one with more rust on it that this!!! If Chassis rails have been done, you might find someone willing to buy the shell? Conversion to manual is straight forward. You can even try the lighter RB flywheels instead of the L one.

I also get really excited when I see an S130 on the road, but it seemed that I was cursed - every time I saw one, I was not driving my Z. The one time I did spot one while driving my S130 on the motorway, I caught up and drove alongside, but the person must have freaked out because he/she slowed dow...

Thanks for the detailed explanation WIKEDZ. When I work on the car next, I will be in NZ for a short while so it helps to know certification issues. Assuming R31 and S130 struts are the same?

Whats next on your build? Was the brakes upgrade in anticipation of a power upgrade?

"this is what i had to do when the cert man said i couldnt do the s13 front suspension as it was not factory struts but we asked for an extension to class for this and had to do a bump steer test which it passed so this suspension in now not in the car." I assume that the bump steer test w...

Nice to see the ZX stay in the community! It was sad seeing a project that took a lot of committment end so abrubtly.

I couldnt bear to put to waste a car that I simply purchased to serve as a template chassis for an engine transplant - I have it in a lock up awaiting rust work and brakes upgrade.
